There are a lot of technical guides to photography, probably if you wander to your local bookstore you'll find at least a dozen but taking pictures of birds is a bit beyond shutter speed and f-stop. This book is both guide and inspiration for those who want to take pictures that are more about capturing the beauty of a moment rather than just firing away and hoping for the best. It also has a guide in the back to the best spots to go to practice your craft. Well worth the wait!

The Cream of the Crop

I own every bird photgraphy book that Amazon lists and this is by far the most useful - and I say that even though I am a Nikon photographer. Beyond the basics, Morris emphasizes exposure, sharpness, composition. He is a good teacher. Moreover, he walks the talk. If you put all the bird photography books on a table and just looked at the pictures, Morris's photos would stand out from the rest in every respect: sharpness, "snap", color balance, compostion, and the sense that they were captured at the critical moment.
A warning to all you digital photographers! Morris shoots film. When you see what he achieves with it, you will be tempted to take your old film body out of the closet and phone New York for a rush order of 20 cartridges of Fuji Velvia.

A great book, full of concrete guides to better photos.

Dittos to what Milton Heiberg wrote. Morris is the most innovative bird photographer I know, and in this book he shares in great detail how he uses his equipment to get great images. When to autofocus, and when not. When to use a single sensor, and when not. How to speed up autofocusing. Different techniques for different situations. Specific advice for specific camera bodies, both Canon and Nikon, and honest assessments of their relative strengths. And much, much more. Plus, a chance to see some fantastic images not previously published, along with old favorites. A great book for anyone who wants to take better bird or other wildlife photos, as the same techniques apply.
