Terrible book. Wouldn't recommend reading, let alone buying it.

Based on the title as well as the abundance of examples in this book, I would only have to assume that the authors wrote this book for non-Math major people or freshmen (or sophomore) with math major who are not mathematically mature yet.
I can see that the authors are trying to focus on the application side rather than theory. As a math major, I am totally cool with it. Applications are important and there should be books that are written for people who don't really care about the theory.
But, for such a book, here are two things that are absolutely not allowed:
1. Tons of typos. To make things worse, some of the typos are actually not easy to spot and actually play a role in confusing people (even for me, who knows a fair amount of things in PDE).
2. Constantly trying to get back to the theoretical side. The authors tried to strike a balance between theory and application, which as far as I am concerned, is a failure in this book. The authors, on several occasions, tried to explain rather deep theoretical phenomena without treating it rigorously (since non-math majors tend to be scared away when being thrown a bunch of big mathematical words). But without introducing the appropriate notions, the only thing that the author achieved was to confuse people more. If you want to write a PDE book without focusing heavily on theory, then stay that way! Don't change your mind half-way!

Not a good book for students.

This book is a book that professors would like, but the student will hate. It's basically a bunch of equations with no explanations. If you want to learn, don't buy this book. It might be useful for a reference, but it's absolutely useless for anything else.
And for the love of god, don't use this to plan a course. The students will be completely lost and will end up hating you.
